The Accommodation

Named in the top five 'Lovenests' in the UK (Guardian Travel section),  featured in  '25 Beautiful Homes' magazine & the Scotsman. Tŷ'r Gof (The Blacksmith's Cottage) is a traditional West Wales 'croglofft' cottage in a lovely rural location just a 12 minute drive from the sandy beaches of Llangrannog or Penbryn. A small and simple rustic home, this cottage is ideal for romantic breaks for two. It sits on a quiet road in a small hamlet a five minute walk from Rhydlewis village (shop, salmon smokery etc). Choice of great Blue Flag award beaches within 15 minute drive, or good country walks from the door. Click here here to see the local coast, or to see the cottage from the front or from the rear

In Detail

Kitchen with cooker, microwave fridge, Belfast sink etc, CD player and a Welsh slate work surface. Country views from window.

Cegin Fawr with 4m high ceiling giving sense of space. Flagstone floor, traditional Ceredigion 'simne lwfr' (wickerwork chimney, lined for the woodburner). Sofabed and other sofa, Welsh 'stick' armchair by the woodburner and oak table & chairs.

Doors front and back to gardens and country views from windows front and back.

The woodburner is a specially commissioned heat-store stove - still warms the cottage the day after fire goes out.

Crogloft: Double bed lit by traditional rooflight above that overlooks rear garden. Open as mezzanine to room below. Low headroom. A travel-cot is (permanently) at the cottage, but bring own baby cot bedding, and high chair if required.

Shower room: Large shower room with toilet and hand basin. Decent, powerful shower. Wooden floor and rustic panelled walls.Heated towel rail, wall heater and panel blast-heater for when you get out the shower.

Garden small garden to front that gets the sun most of the day, and a small raise patio with picnic bench to the rear with nice views.

Access to field down to river where you have another picnic bench. Parking.

The slate floor, enclosed rear garden, and good local dog walking make this property suitable for well behaved pets. Rural public footpaths just yards away.

We've deliberately kept this cottage simple and rustic inside, so there is no TV and there are traditional oil lamps etc if you wish to use them (electric lights also fitted).

We've even avoided putting in a clock, though there is a CD player/ radio.

Those who can't cope without their gadgets could always bring a laptop to play DVDs.

The woodburning stove throws out an impressive 8kw of heat (that's like 8 bars on an electric fire!) and stays lit overnight, but there is electric panel heating for back-up.

So it's rustic without being uncomfortable!

This property has a generous midday check out time on day of departure.

Local Area

Located in a small hamlet of just half a dozen traditional stone-built homes, Ty'r Gof enjoys a small private garden to both front and rear, and a picnic bench down by the river (protected as a Site of Special Scientific Interest because of the otters). We own the fishing rights if you fancy your hand catching the small brown trout.

Charming village shop just a short walk away in Rhydlewis village, or walk to the village smokery where you can learn fly fishing, or buy their oak-smoked cheeses, bacons, salmon etc. The smoked trout fillets there have won several food awards or the local farm shop sells all organic and Welsh produce.

A 10 minute drive takes you to the best beaches in Cardigan bay at Llangrannog, Penbryn or Tresaith.

This part of the coast is home to Europe's largest colony of bottlenosed dolphins as well as a noted breeding ground for grey seals.
