about the property

Priced for 6, sleeps 7. 17th-century Coaching Inn in West Wales with original features, modern comforts, and a 3-acre field—ideal for coastal escapes.

Maenllwyd is a Grade II listed former tavern on a quiet road not far outside the Carmarthenshire village of Meidrim in West Wales. It's a great choice for a family break in the Carmarthenshire hills, and particularly good if you've got a dog, as there's an enclosed 3-acre field for them to exercise in. There's also a full-size pickleball court on site—great fun for families to enjoy together.

The chief delight here is the beautifully restored interior, impeccably handled by local owners Jo and Steve. Steve has been a consultant for and worked on dozens of Landmark Trust and National Trust restorations in Wales, but the revival of this pub (back into a house) has been a labour of love.

You're only 10 minutes from St Clears town, or 25 minutes to Pendine sands, 30 to Llansteffan. As St Clears is on the main arterial route into Pembrokeshire you can easily choose between days out in Tenby, Saundersfoot, Pembroke etc. or stay in Carmarthenshire for the Botanic Gardens, Laugharne, Aberglasney house and gardens, or a choice of beaches.

customer reviews for *NEW* Maenllwyd

We had a delightful two-night stay in rainy July. 3 adults plus a Labrador. Cold enough for a fire, and a welcome and generous amount of wood. A splendid, roomy and imaginatively restored pub. Would definitely return. Good for the dog and owners with secure spaces outside.

This has been my first booking with Under the Thatch and what a wonderful experience we have had in our stay at Maenllwyd. The interior of this Inn is so full of character with all original fixtures to enhance the history of the place. Everything is there that you would need to make your stay one of enjoyment. The owners have put much thought into making this such a special holiday let and one where you will want to return to.

Maenllwyd exceeded all expectations. It's difficult to capture it's uniqueness and charm in a few words. As soon as we entered the house we felt engulfed by its character and history. Every piece of furniture is unique and a particular favourite was the 'dresal Gymraeg'. Indoors is cosy with beautiful Melin Tregwynt soft furnishings. The decor perfectly befitting for a house of its period. Outdoors is fabulous. The pickle ball was a winner and late evenings we enjoyed the fire pit. The BBQ served us well. Every kitchen utensil required was of high quality and no expense spared. The garden is private and enclosed. The field was there when we needed it, beautiful peaceful setting. Location was perfect for us. A beach with 25 minutes and historical places to explore within short distance by car. Food shopping was easy enough with a Coop a short drive away and an excellent Morrisons in Caerfyrddin. We've stayed in so many places over the years and without doubt Maenllwyd is a firm favourite. Diolch yn fawr iawn am agor y tŷ i ni. Thank you for the 'croeso' basket on our arrival.
