Owned and restored directly by Under the Thatch, and in the most remarkable beachfront location!
"We walked outside to a scene that electrified the senses: the distinctive smell of seaweed drying in the inlet below; a wondrous vista out to a long bay that looked like it was lit from within. The only sound was a distant tractor on the single-track lane.
It’s for elemental experiences like these that people venture to this part of Ireland."The Guardian reviewing Teach Mhici
"If you were asked to describe the most idyllic seaside holiday home you could imagine, you might come up with something close to Teach Mhicí. Glittering turquoise water, private beach with pristine white sand, Scandi-inspired cottage with turf-woodburner and sea views from every window; it’s a little slice of Irish paradise."The Irish Times
- Irish Times - No 2 in their List of 'Amazing Places to Stay in Ireland' (we also had the No.1 position)
A traditional Irish vernacular cottage sitting on the shore of the Atlantic with access to our private, sandy beach.
Teach Mhicí (Irish for Mickey's Cottage) has one (Kingsize) bedroom and a very low mezzanine loft with a double bed open to the main living space. We've added a large comfortable bathroom, and insulated everywhere before we lined it in wood from the local forest. It's a simple, but wonderful place. If you require more space we also advertise the larger cottage just up the slope behind.

travel info
You can easily fly by low-cost carrier but we prefer the greener (and nicer) route by ferry with your own car. Ireland is such an amazing country, and you'll find so much to do and see 'en route'.
Note Aer Lingus often have deals as cheap as Ryanair/ Easyjet and fly to 15 UK airports
Flights? Note that Northern Ireland is closer than, say, Dublin.
- Donegal - flights to Dublin and Glasgow with Flybe (25-minute fabulous coastal drive to the cottage)
- Derry (Londonderry) via Glasgow, Liverpool (with Ryanair) and London City (BMI) 1hr. 25 mins. away) - good for Giant's Causeway
- Belfast International via these departure airports & Easyjet & Ryanair (2 hr. 25 mins.) - good for Giant's Causeway
- Belfast City via these departure airports & Ryanair (2 hr. 35 mins.) - good for Giant's Causeway
- Knock via these departure airports & Ryanair (2 hr. 15 min.)
- Dublin via these departure airports & Ryanair (3 hr. 25 min.)
Sail with either Stenaline or Irish Ferries to:
- Belfast via Liverpool/ Stranraer (2 hr. 35 mins. away)
- Larne via Fleetwood (2 hr. 40 mins.)
- Dublin via Holyhead/ Douglas (3 hr. 30 min.)
- Dun Laoghaire via Holyhead (3 hr. 35 mins.)
- Rosslare via Fishguard/ Pembroke Dock (5 hr. 15 mins and an amazing drive)
(Tip - ferries cheapest Mon>Thu)
