The Accommodation

"Isn't it about time you indulged in some pure serenity in the mountainous, remote countryside of Central Portugal? If you're looking for somewhere sublimely rural, with trickling brook and birdsong, this is it. As comfortable as sleeping under the stars gets." Lonely Planet

New for summer 2010! The pine-clad mountains of central Portugal are magical, and you'll be hard pushed to find more 'fairytale' accommodation than this luxuriously equipped yurt near Arganil. Everything here is good quality, and the breakfasts (included in price) are as delicious as the optional evening meals. You'll find plenty to explore, and yet you'll be unlikely to come across other tourists. This is an undiscovered area that has been spared the bustle of the coastline (an easy day-trip for those who miss the surf).

Unlike so many yurt developments, you have you independent bathroom facilities with a proper hot shower, privacy and furnishings that are more akin to a hotel bedroom than any camping experience. The yurt stands on a raised wooden platform to take advantage of the view, in the shade of a chestnut tree. Hammocks and loungers provided, and not far for wonderful wild swimming and river bathing. Extra yurt photos.

Customer Comments

'This is the perfect place to get away from it all- waking up to the sound of the babbling brook and the breeze through the trees is the perfect antedote to city living...who knew that getting back to nature could be so decadent.' - Jo & Guy

'This really is a wonderfully relaxing and beautiful spot...The bird song, the running water near by, the tranquility and of course the yurt. I shall miss the stars. Thank you so much for making us so at home and comfortable. ' - Tom & Laura

'After a hot shower the goose-down duvet and sumptious bed were a joy after a long day exploring. The yurt is a fantastic base from which to walk off into the hills or find remote villages and beautiful swimming spots where fish are your only company. Breakfasts were a banquet including pancakes, eggs, toast and delicious fresh coffee which set me up for the day.' - Sophie B.
