The Accommodation

"perfectly located for exploring the majestic Black Mountains and Offa's Dyke footpath that follows the border between England and Wales" (Sunday Mirror) Enjoy a truly romantic and memorable holiday in beautiful Monmouthshire. The 'Open-Lot' type gypsy caravan is situated in the nook of a field with a view of the foothills of the romantic Black Mountains. A simple country cabin sits alongside with a kitchen and bathroom. The main  farmhouse is just down the end of the field, and within sight. The fields round about, which make up the small, peaceful sheep farm, are designated as an SSSI (Site of Special Scientific Interest) and the farm is down a long private lane in a tranquil location. 5* review here. Also, have a look at our Irish romany caravan here.

In Detail

The inside of the caravan has a traditional 'Queenie' stove, (and electric heater), a pull-out double bed and a (cupboard) bed for a small child underneath. Duvet etc provided.

Note that if you are over 6'2" tall you won't be able to sleep flat out on the bed in the caravan, though there is a double sofabed in the cabin (useful in stormy weather). When pulled-out the main double bed is slightly narrower than a modern double bed.

Next to the caravan is a comfortable cabin containing modern comforts -

Bathroom, complete with large shower, loo, wash hand basin and a great antique roll-top bath

Kitchen/Diner with a neat little kitchen, a sofabed, a pull-out table (with chairs), a radio/CD-player, an electric radiator and an antique French shepherd's woodburning stove.

The verandah is just right for sitting out on warm summer evenings and watching the sun slip down behind the hills.

The caravan is perfect for two but one child up to around age 5 would also be welcome. The cabin sofa bed is more suitable for two children rather than a further two adults.

One very well behaved dog welcome (see extras below), but only in the cabin (not caravan). Note that there are sheep in neighbouring fields and a (friendly) male labrador lives on the farm.

Bedding and towels, soap and loo paper are included in the price, as is the electricity in the well insulated cabin.

The kitchen is very well-equipped for its size, and comprises hob, sink and microwave. Fuel is provided for the two traditional stoves.

The caravan has been awarded the Green Dragon Environmental Award (Level II).

Customer Comments

A long-standing wish realised: it's everything we had anticipated. The vardo (caravan) is a work of art - a real treasure, and the cabin is so well-finished, bright and cheerful. We could live here permanently! ~ Jack and Anne from Cornwall

Two days and nights in the snow! Snug and cosy we were, too, wrapped up in the warmest duvet in the caravan and with the incredibly efficient stove heating the cabin up. All in all, a lovely Valentine's weekend. ~ Sam and Paddy from Cirencester,

I could live here! Wild weather - lunar eclipse - owls and rain on the caravan roof!! What a wonderful birthday surprise from a great boyfriend! We'll be back.... ~ Candi and Scott from Bristol,

Booking Notes

Please note that well-behaved dogs are welcome, but only in the cabin, not the caravan. Note that the farm is approached by a long and bumpy track which won't suit low cars. The caravan and cabin is most suitable for a couple plus up to two children and an infant.
