As seen in World of Interiors magazine, Jan 08 simplest one of the best cottage interiors in the world!

Bryn Eglur (translates as 'Clear Hill') is one of the most charming traditional cottages in Wales. Set in 12 acres green pasture, down a private track, this is a real 'get-away-from-it-all' escape in the heart of the hills of Carmarthenshire, yet easily accessed from the M4 at Carmarthen , and only 11 miles (16 minute drive) from the coast at Laugharne.

The detached cottage has one of the best surviving traditional Welsh cottage interiors (built 1755) and is furnished throughout in traditional country antiques. Click HERE to see lots more photos of this cottage or some holiday snaps from previous guests.

We've seen hundreds of Welsh cottages and this really does have one of the most authentic historic interiors available in Wales -hence it has been featured in several TV programmes and in magazines.

The cottage sleeps 4 in two bedrooms, and is a delightful combination of the old and new. The cottage itself is completely traditional, but the former byre has been converted into a modern kitchen, and a stylish bathroom fitted in the former dairy. There is an open fire (Victorian cast-iron range), a new Rayburn stove, and underfloor central heating.

Everything about this restoration project has been done well - from the wickerwork chimney-hood to the quality porcelain in the kitchen cupboards.

The cottage is under 2 miles from the Camarthenshire village of Trelech (pub, shop), and easily accessible from the M4 or the market town of Newcastle Emlyn is a short drive (castle, good pubs, delicatessen, fresh fish, antiques, top-quality Indian restaurant & takeaway).

Good local outings include Llansteffan beach and castle, Cenarth waterfalls & cheese farm. Dylan Thomas' Boathouse is a great day out in a beautiful location. See his writing 'hut' and enjoy the amazing estuary views or stop off for a pint in his favourite pub.

The National Botanic Garden of Wales is one of Europe's best gardens. Forget the Eden project - our dome is bigger and better!

In fact there are so many great gardens in the area that is has been called The Garden of Wales.

And there is SO much great food produced locally that they've made a directory of the finest producers. We particularly love dry-cured Carmarthen Ham - apparently the Queen has it on special order!

There are some great local walks - and this website will guide you through the best of them.

Under half-hour drive to the sandy beaches at Pendine or Llansteffan.

See the cottage location here. Note that the cottage is approached by a private, bumpy track which is accessible by all but the lowest of sports cars (eg Audi TT was fine).

Kitchen with new Rayburn stove (solid fuel) that runs hot water and underfloor heating to ground floor. Neff stainless steel appliances. fridge-freezer and stainless steel hob and electric oven. Doors to both gardens.

Dining room in former parlour with antique Welsh oak dresser, longcase clock etc. Some nice Georgian pieces. A nice, peaceful room to write in.

Cegin Fawr is the main room of the house (literally the 'Great Kitchen'. Working inglenook with genuine Victorian cast-iron range. Welsh stick chairs, settles etc.

Bathroom (ground floor) in former dairy with contemporary roll-top bath and modern designer fittings, heated towel rail.

Main bedroom with antique cast iron double bed and other country antiques, lovely views. Electric radiator. The antique bed is 6" narrower than a modern double.

Second bedroom with double Welsh box-bed (sleeps 2). One of the best beds we have on our books, but note it is slightly shorter and narrower than a modern bed and therefore not suitable for, say, two tall adults. This room is entered from the main bedroom.

Gardens front and rear and fields on all four sides are yours to explore.

Well-behaved dogs are allowed but note that sheep may be in adjoining fields. This is our most authentic interior and has fewer modern conveniences (no sofa, TV, shower). That's why we love it, but it won't suit everyone.

If you enjoy a sense of rural seclusion, genuine country interiors restored to a high specification then you will LOVE Bryn Eglur. There really is nowhere else like it to rent in Wales.

Bryn Eglur (cyfieithur i 'Clear Hill') yw un o'r bythynnod mwyaf dymunol a thraddodiadol yng Nghymru. Wedi ei leoli mewn 12 erw o borfeydd gwelltog, lawr lon breifat, dyma le 'gwbl ddi-ar-ffordd' i ddianc, yng nghalon bryniau Sir Gaerfyrddin, ond o fewn cyrraedd rhwydd i'r M4 yng Nghaerfyrddin.

Mae tu fewn y bwthyn wedi ei addurno'n draddodiadol Gymraeg (adeiladwyd yn 1755) ac wedi'i ddodrefnu drwyddo a dodrefn hynafol. Cliciwch YMA i weld rhagor o luniau'r bwthyn neu cipluniau'r gwesteion sydd wedi aros yma.

Allan o gannoedd o fythynnod traddodiadol Cymraeg mae gan hwn rhai o'r ystafelloedd mewnol mwyaf hanesyddol yng Nghymru, ac mae wedi cael ei bortreadu ar nifer o raglennu teledu ac mewn cylchgronnau.

Mae'r bwthyn yn cysgu 4 mewn dau ystafell wely, ac mae'n dod a'r hen a'r newydd at eu gilydd. Mae'r bwthyn ei hun yn gwbl draddodiadol ond mae'r hen feudy wedi ei addasu i wneud cegin fodern. Mae yna ystafell 'molchi steilus yn yr hen laethdy. Mae yna dan agored Victorianaidd, Rayburn a gwres-canolog tanlawr.

Mae gran ar y gwaith adfer sydd yn glir i'w weld ym mhlethwaith lwfer y simne a'r llestri porslen yng nghypyrddau'r gegin.

Mae'r bwthyn o dan dwy filltir i bentref Trelech (tafarn, siop), ac o fewn cyrraedd rhwydd i'r M4.

Llefydd diddorol i'w ymweld: traeth a chastell Llansteffan, rhaeadr a fferm Caws Cenarth. Os yn chwilio rhywle arbennig i dreulio'r diwrnod mewn lle anhygoel o brydferth, cerwch i dy-cwch Dylan Thomas yn Laugharne. Gwelwch ei gaban ysgrifennu a mwynhewch y golygfeydd rhyfeddol. Gorffenwch y diwrnod wrth gael 'peint' yn ei hoff dafarn.

Un o'r gerddi gorau yn Ewrop yw'r Gerddi Botaneg Genedlaethol yn Llanarthne. Anghofiwch yr 'Eden Project' - mae'n 'dome' ni yn fwy ag yn well!

I ddweud y gwir mae cymaint o erddi werth- eu- gweld yn yr ardal, maen't wedi ei lysenwi'n 'Ardd Cymru'.

Mae llawer o fwyd blasus ar gael yn lleol, a gwelir hyn mewn cyfarwyddiadur sydd wedi ei gyhoeddi o'r cynhyrchwyr gorau. Cig-moch Caerfyrddin yw un o'n ffefrunau: mae hyd yn oed y Frenhines yn ei fwynhau!

Mae yna ddigon o lwybrau i fynd am dro; mae manylion i'w gweld ar y wefan yma.

Hanner awr mewn car i draethau Pendine a Llansteffan. Gweler lleoliad y bwthyn YMA.

Y Gegin. Stof Rayburn (tanwydd soled) sy'n rhedeg dwr twym a'r gwres tanlawr. Peiriannau 'NEFF' dur gloyw, rhewgell-rewgist, ffwrn drydan. Drysau'n arwain allan i'r ddwy ardd.

Ystafell Fwyta. Hen seld derw Cymraeg, hen gloc a.y.y.b. Darnau Georgaidd. Ystafell dawel.

Y Gegin Fawr. Prif ystafell y bwthyn. Tan ar yr aelwyd, cadeiriau traddodiadol Cymraeg, sgiwiau a.y.y.b.

Ystafell 'molchi (ar lawr). Mae hwn yn yr hen laethdy. Bath 'roll-top', a dyfeisiau modern. Rheilen dywelion wedi'i dwymo.

Prif ystafell wely. Gwely dwbwl haearn-bwrw a dodrefn hynafol arall. Golygfeydd prydferth. Gwresogydd trydan. Mae'r gwely'n 6'' yn fwy cul na gely dwbwl traddodiadol.

Ail Ystafell Wely. Gwely dwbwl bocs (sy'n cysgu 2). Un o'r gwelyau gorau ar ein llyfrau, ond gan ei fod yn llai cul ac yn fyrach na gwely dwbwl traddodiadol, nid yw'n addas i ddau berson tal. Rhaid mynd trwy'r prif ystafell wely er mwyn mynd i fewn i'r ystafell yma.

Y Gerddi. Mae'r holl ardd, boed tu flaen neu tu ol y bwthyn, a hyd yn oed y caeau oamgylch ar gael i chi eu mwynhau.

Mae croeso i gwn ar yr amod eu bod yn ymddwyn, cofiwch ambellwaith efallai bydd yna ddefaid/wyn bach yn y caeau. Dyma un o'r cynlluniau mewnol mwyaf dilys o'r hen ddyddiau sydd gennym, felly nid oes llawer o gyfleusterau modern i gael, (dim sofa, teledu, cawod). Bydd e ddim yn siwto pawb felly! ond i ni'n ei garu.

Os y'ch chi'n mwynhau neilltuaeth bywyd cefn-gwlad, cynlluniau mewnol gwirioneddol wedi eu adfer yn unol a'r gofynion dyma'r lle i chi!

Does unman tebyg i'w rhenti yng Nghymru.

Darllenwch hanes adferiad y bwthyn YMA.

Customer Comments

"From the moment I set foot in this wonderful cottage, I knew I would be sad to leave. Sitting here beside the Rayburn, the smell of roast dinner met with as much pleasure as the gentle tones of Radio Four, my heart is heavier than ever. Simply put: this place feels like home. " ~ Kyle & Joe from London who stayed September 2007

"When we asked whether this beautiful home would be suitable for a honeymoon we were assured that it was, but we never expected anything as fabulous as this. The effort made in the renovation was really worth it - the cottage is a permanent reminder of the past days, without losing any of the luxury of modern times. The bedrooms are cosy and we both enjoyed the longest lie-ins for over a year! On top of all this the people we have met everywhere have been welcoming and always had a tale or two to tell. This has simply been one of the best holidays ever !" ~ Rebecca & Brian who honeymooned August 2007

"I adore Welsh Vernacular buildings and furniture, so this cottage has been a wonderful place to stay for a week. My wife summed it up when she told people back home 'its like living in one of those buildings in St Fagan's museum of rural life'! A lovely quiet and remote cottage which has been brought back to life, well done ! " ~ Andrew & Diane Gadd who stayed July 2007

"A wonderful place to come away to, and with a magical garden - luckily we brought our hammock! We've now decided to rent a secluded cottage permanently. The Aga was friendly and lots of magical moments to take home with us thank you so much ... and Dodger the dog loved it !" ~ Shaye and Emily from Swansea who stayed May 2007

"Such an amazing place for Christmas, we loved it so much - everything was so perfect! It was like stepping back in time -thank you for a super holiday" ~ Marike & friends who stayed Christmas 2006

"Thank you for a warm and cosy winter break- fantastic. The sunshine even paid a visit and we saw loads of Buzzards & red kites over the cottage. A holiday we wont forget !" ~ Claire & Simon from Shropshire who stayed in January 2007

"A wonderful, authentic cottage - we enjoyed every moment of our stay... from the fresh cut daffodils to the vegetables in the garden which we made into a soup. All the antique furniture and accessories added to a wonderful architectural gem, and we certainly got a glimpse of former Welsh country living." ~ Jim & family from Colorado who stayed march 2007

"What an amazing cottage- serene, peaceful,.....Perfect place to get away & relax. Thank you !" ~ Bryony and Mary from Wolverhampton who stayed February 2007

"Our stay here has been brilliant- we've done lots of walking. Its an amazing house and such an honour to stay here. All the details are fantastic and I hope that I can do as good a job as you when I eventually find my 'perfect cottage'." ~ Stef and Emily from London who stayed March 2007
