Hen Glyn is a Grade II listed cottage in the Brecon
Beacons National Park, with direct access to the Black
Mountain where there is a 'right to roam' freely. It has
a hot-tub with great open views of the mountains.
The cottage sleeps 4 in two bedrooms, well-behaved dogs
allowed.
This is one of our best cottage for hill-walking, and
has an outdoor heated hot-tub so you can enjoy the mountain
views and relax with your partner/friends.
Hen Glyn sits on the farm courtyard of a typical working
hill farm of some 230 acres, with the modern farmhouse next
door.
Set in the south of the Brecon
Beacons, this is a surprisingly undiscovered area, and
you'll find excellent way-marked walks start right at the
front door.
Despite being a great bolthole, this is one of our most
easily accessible cottages, just 11 miles from the M4...yet
in a beautiful, open landscape.
The typical 'valleys' town of Ystradgynlais (supermarket,
pubs etc) is 3 miles distant, and there is a bar at the
friendly golf club a mile away. Click here
to see the location.
The cottage had been empty for 30 years before its recent
renovation, and all work has been undertaken using traditional
conservation and eco-friendly materials (natural paints,
limewashes etc).
The ground floor has a large open-plan lounge diner, with
a kitchen off and a small shower-room/toilet.
Up (steep) stairs there are two bedrooms (one double, one
twin) separated by a landing area with its own sofa and
TV/DVD. A cot and high chair are available (bring your own
cot bedding).
A wood-burning stove heats the lounge, and there is full
central heating throughout.
The cottage feels surprisingly light, fresh and contemporary
inside, whilst respecting the original C18 oak beams, crucks,
panelling and (steep) stairs.
There is a TV (Sky FreeSat channels) in the lounge, dishwasher,
washing machine, microwave and all the other usual equipment.
Outside there is a hot tub to the rear (to take advantage
of the mountain views) - available all year round.
To the front there is a small garden area with patio dining
set etc.
Visitors who stay here will no doubt take advantage of
the open country walking (right to roam) that starts on
Hen Glyn farm.
There is a Golf Club just a mile distant, Carreg Cennen
castle is 14 miles away, and the famous Dan yr Ogof 'Show'
caves are about a 15 minute drive.
The beautiful sandy coves of the Gower peninsula are within
a 40 minute drive. "Call
of the Wild" adventure sports are based locally
and can arrange some of Wales' most exciting adventure sports
for you.
You'll probably spend most of your time just relaxing by
the fire and ambling about on the land that enjoys great
views in any weather.
Note: This cottage retains its original steep stairs which
won't suit the infirm. There is a stair-gate at the top.
Well-behaved dogs are allowed, though note that there are
sheep about. The cottage is on a working farm where you
may occasionally hear some farm animals- you are welcome
to have a tour of the stock (time permitting!).
The cottage is accessible via public transport via train
at Neath (10m) or Swansea (18m) and then bus to Ystradgynlais
(3m by road or 1.5m by bridlepath) from where you can arrange
a taxi or we may be able to assist with a pick-up.
