Penbont
(traeth) Penbryn
8 (ideal 6) in three bedrooms, pets by arrangement

Penbont is a charming traditional stone cottage with 12 acres of private meadow and woodland a short walk from Penbryn beach. We think it is one the loveliest spots in Britain - one of the few large stretches of of sand in Britain without ANY development around the beach itself.

The sea is just a short walk away (10 mins, some say less), or just stay home and enjoy the views, tranquil location, and the wildlife in the fields that you have exclusive use of. The fields have been organically farmed so lots of wildflowers and wildlife.

Penbryn is a completely unspoiled beach with no development around it. It is one of the longest stretches of sand in the bay, yet often one of the quietest. There is a lovely walk down to it through the woods which are rich in some of the best fern beds in Wales.

Penbont sleeps up to 8 (more comfortable for 6) in three bedrooms, though still feels cosy enough for just two. It has lovely gardens on each side and a few traditional outbuildings, a charming atmosphere inside and country pine furnishings and fittings.

Every window (original sashes) has a pleasant rural view and there is a 'half' cottage-type door out to the garden. No near neighbours!

Great for families as there is lots of safe outside space, and well-behaved pets allowed from October> May 1st (when they are also allowed on the beach). Also suitable for those looking for a quiet, romantic getaway!

Although this must be one of the prettiest stone cottages in Ceredigion, we love it for its location.

To the front you can see the ancient St Michael's church up on the hill (one of the most romantic in Wales), to the side you can see down to Cardigan bay, and the fields on every side belong to Penbont. Adjoining land is owned by the National Trust, and there is easy access onto the famous coastal footpath.

National Trust tea shop within 5 minute walk (NB seasonal opening) or just a couple of miles to great seafood served in Tresaith at The Ship (overlooking Tresaith beach) or in nearby villages of Llangrannog, Aberporth etc.

Heating throughout (night storage) and a large woodburner in the comfortable lounge. Seagrass matting, original artworks and lots of nice personal touches. Click HERE to see a map of the location. (the marker in centre of photo shows exact location of house, you walk down through those woods to the beach).

The cottage doesn't have Broadband but only a 25 minute (15 mile) drive up the coast to the Harbourmaster where you can enjoy free wireless Broadband over a coffee/ drink or award-winning seafood. You'd probably want to visit the charming harbour at Aberaeron during your stay anyway.

You can arrange a Welsh food hamper to be ready for your arrival through this local company.

Downstairs:

Lounge with 2 very comfortable sofas, rocking chairs, wood-burning stove, TV (basic Sky/ digital channels), DVD player etc

Farmhouse Kitchen with traditional Rayburn stove and modern electric cooker, microwave and dishwasher. Farmhouse pine table seats 6 comfortably. No washing machine.

Upstairs:

Bedroom 1: Double bed with windows on two sides. All beds have duvets on them. Pine furniture.

Bedroom 2: Large family room with double bed and pair of bunk beds (room can sleep 4)

Bedroom 3: Small room with pair of bunks (room can sleep 2)

Family bathroom: of a good size with bath

Outside:

Veranda to front of house and small cottage garden

Patio to the side with teak patio set, further pretty terraced gardens

Meadow and woodland, stream etc (12 acres in all)

Outbuildings: haybarn, cowshed etc. Parking max 4 cars.

Please note that well-behaved dogs are allowed from October to May 1st only, and we never bend that rule as dogs aren't allowed on the beach in summer.

What is there to do locally?

Stay 'home' and relax and explore the farmland of which you have exclusive use.

Dine out on local seafood and organic produce (choice of good dining within 3 miles, excellent farm shop stocking all Ceredigion organic and artisan foods just 3 miles away).

Walk down to the beach (approximately 12 minutes, 600 yards) or follow the coastal footpath

Take a boat trip (New Quay 5 miles) to see dolphins close up

Follow the West Wales Food Trail - Britain's best cheeses, great salmon etc! Rhydlewis salmon smokery is about 5 miles.

Relax and enjoy the peace, quiet, and landscape views that are beautiful in any weather.
