VisitWales (WTB) Graded 4* for 2008

As seen on the BBC Four TV Series 'A Pembrokeshire Farm'. and named No. 7 in the 'Top 15 Green Places to Stay in the UK' by the Observer!

Trehilyn is probably one of the best self-catering cottages available in Wales. Expect a genuinely stylish, quality interior with real attention to detail. Add to that its location in one of the most dramatic coastal landscapes in Britain and you'll see why it is so popular.

But don't just take our word for it - read this independent review from The Guardian travel section or we found this guest review on an independent site.

Owned by Griff Rhys Jones (TV broadcaster and of BBC Restoration etc), Trehilyn was chosen as a show-piece restoration project because of its enviable location on the rugged Strumble Head peninsula.

Read an interview with Griff about the project from Quality Wales magazine here - Trehilyn was selected by VisitWales (Wales Tourist Board) as representing the best quality in Wales. Or click here for a short article from Holiday Cottage magazine.

We were consultants for the restoration and agreed to rent the cottage when Griff is in London to ensure year-round benefit to the local community - you can expect to find a star-quality cottage!

Trehilyn comes with 70 acres of private farmland to explore - much of it with sea views (although the house itself is sheltered in a dip, without a sea view).

Dramatic country and coastal walks start just down the lane - you won't find a better place to stay if you want to explore the famous Pembrokeshire coastal footpath.

Click here to see a map location or here to see an aerial photo that is centred on the cottage.

Trehilyn Isaf (sleeping 4) is semi-detached to Trehilyn Uchaf (sleeping 5) in case you have a larger party. Click here to see extra photos of both cottages.

Trehilyn has been renovated with sustainability in mind - hence it has an eco-friendly wood-chip central heating boiler, is insulated with Welsh sheepswool not fibreglass, and we only used lime/limecrete (not cement/ concrete) and low-toxin natural oil paints etc.

We also sourced virtually everything locally for the renovation (e.g. Welsh slate not Brazilian, local roof timbers not Norwegian etc) and have a team of local housekeeping and maintenance staff who are employed all year round thanks to our flexible pricing policy in low season.

Kitchen - well equipped with excellent quality appliances (Bosch dishwasher, microwave etc). Access to rear gardens - one of four doors to the property (two front, two rear), so you are never far from the wonderful outside space and fields. Good views.

Cegin Fawr - traditional ingle-nook room with dining area - large country table sits 8 easily. Dresser etc.

Lounge with contemporary woodburner, and direct access to front and rear gardens. First basket of logs supplied. LCD TV & DVD player. Good quality and comfortable sofa and tub chairs, stairs up to croglofft over.

Bathroom and toilet to ground floor (no shower). Bath that fills fast. Like most rooms this enjoys views over open fields.

Small 'Utility' area with washing machine and dryer.

Master bedroom (up steep stairs, gated at top), double bed (great mattress) etc with en-suite shower-room off (chrome heated towel rail etc). Large shower cubicle.

Croglofft bedroom (up steep stairs, gated at top, low headroom in parts) - best suited to kids, this has two good single beds, and overlooks the main lounge via balcony. Good quality mattresses.

Plenty of outside space for you/ the kids/ the dog to run about in! Garden furniture in rear garden, access over 70 acres (keep dog on lead around sheep).

Centrally-heated throughout (Carbon Neutral eco-heating system), with underfloor heating included in price.

Note that there are steep open-tread stairs up to both bedrooms (gated at top), so this cottage won't be suitable for the infirm.

Well-behaved dogs are welcome (small surcharges apply) - the Pembrokeshire coastal footpath is nearby and perfect for pooches!

Stay here if you'd like to.....

Most people come here just to unwind and escape, but when you do decide to go out you can't miss the dramatic Strumble Head landscape and coastal footpath. Why not walk over to the famous lighthouse and wildlife look-out? You might even see dolphins!

No other area in Britain has so many Blue Flag beaches as here. Although the sea is very near, to get to a good beach (Aber Mawr) is 3 miles.

Or there are 51 forts and castles to see in the county!

To find out more about Pembrokeshire check out the excellent county website.

If you get bored of the sea then just head inland to see the Preseli Mountains with their impressive archaeology.

Goodwick harbour is a 3.3 mile drive (cheap day-trips to Ireland!) as well as shops, pubs and takeaway food.

Fishguard town is charming, just 4.5 miles distant with supermarkets etc and art galleries.

Or shop for the famous interiors goods at nearby Melin Tregwynt.

If you love good food then Pembrokeshire has its own food guide there are so many choices! We love Llys Meddyg in nearby Newport for a special meal out.

Fel a welir ar raglen deledu BBC pedwar ‘A Pembrokeshire farm’ – ac ym mhapur yr Observer fel un or bumtheg lefydd orau gwyrdd i aros ynddo ym Mhrydain (rhif 7!).

Mae Trehilyn yn mwy na thebyg yn un o fythynod orau arlwyaeth hunol Cymru. Disgwyliwch bwthyn traddodiadol, cyfoes, sydd wedi talw sylw i fanyldeb. Ymunwch hun gyda lleoliad gwych a phrydferth a dewch i adnabod pam mae’r bwthyn hon yn mor boblogaidd gyda ymwelwyr.

Ond peidwich a cymryd ein gair ni am y peth, darllenwch yr arolwg hon o bapur y Guardian.

Griff Rhys Jones (darllenydd teledu gyda rhaglenau adneywddu y BBC) yw perchennydd y bwthyn. Dewiswyd Trehilyn oherwydd o’i leoliad arbennig ym mheninsiwla Pen Caer. Drwy’r rhaglen hon daethom i adnobod y bwthyn a chytuno i'w rhentu allan i ymwelwyr ar ran Griff sydd nawr yn byw yn Llundain.

Mae Trehilyn yn dod gyda 70 acer o dir preifat iI chwi grwydro arno- gyda llawer ohono gyda olygfeydd allan I’r mor (er nad yw’r mor i’w weld o’r bwthyn ei hun).

Mae’r lleoliad yn wledig sydd yn golygu fod digon o lefydd i gerdded, gyda llwybrau yn cychwyn o ddrws y bwthyn!

Pwyswch yma i weld leoliad neu yma i weld map awyr o’r bwthyn.

Mae Trehilyn Isaf (sy’n cysgu 4) wedi ei hanner gysylltu gyda Trehilyn Uchaf (sy’n cysgu 5), gret os oes parti eang gyda chwi. Pwyswch yma i weld rhagor o lyniau.

Mae Trehilyn wed ei adnewyddu gyda cynaldu mewn golwg. Dyna pam mae ganddi berwedydd gwres ganolog wedi ei hadeiladu o bren ‘wood-chip’ sydd yn eco-gyfeillgar. Mae’r bwthyn wedi ei ynysu gyda gwlan defaid cymreig, nid ‘fibreglass’. Hefyd, dim ond golchfa calch, nid concrid, a phaent a defnyddau naturiol yn unig a ddefnyddir ar y bwthyn.

Mae pob defnydd o’r adnewyddiad mwy na lai wedi dod o’r ardal leol (llechi cymreig, pren lleol ac yn y blaen), a mae gyda ni tim o bobl lleol wedi eu cyflogi i edrych ar ol y bwthyn drwy’r flwyddyn

Cegin Fach - Mae’r cegin yn fawr sydd yn cynnwys cymhwysterau gwych (peiriant golchi llestri, micro don). Mae mynedfa i’r ardd gefn dwy’r cegin, felly nid ydych byth mwy na throedfedd i ffwrdd o’r gwlad ty fas.

Cegin Fawr - Ystafell draddodiadol gyda lle bwyta – Bwrdd mawr wledig sydd yn eistedd 8 o bobl yn hawdd. Mae seld hardd yn yr ystafell hon.

Lolfa – Gyda llosgydd pren, ac eto, mynedfa i’r ardd tu fas (Rhoddir y basged cyntaf o nwyddau tan iddoch i helpu). Teledu LCD, DVD. Mae cadieirau a sofa cyfoes a chyfforddus yma. Yma hefyd mae grisiau i fyny i’r ystafell wely (y croglofft).

Ystafell Ymolchi – Yn cynnwys toiled ar y llawr gwaelod (dim cawod). Bath sydd yn llenwi’n gyflym. Mae golygfeydd prydferth o’r ystafell hon o’r caeau ty fas.

Ystafell Cyfleustodau – yn cynnwys peiriant golchi a sychu dillad.

Prif Ystafell Wely – I fyny grisiau serth sydd gyda giat diogelwch arno. Gwely dwbl a ystafell ymolchi oddi arno yn cynnwys ystafell cawod mawr.

Ystafell Wely 2 (croglofft) – I fyny grisiau serth eto sydd eto gyda giat diolgelwch arno. Mwy addas ar gyfer plant nag oedolion. Mae dau wely sengl yma sydd yn orweld y lolfa dros oriel bach.

Digon o lefydd tu fas i grwydro i chwi/y plant/ neu i’r ci rhedeg o gwmpas! Mae dodrefn
ardd yn yr ardd gefn i chwi eistedd arno. (Byddwch yn ddoeth gyda’r ci am fod lawer o anifeiliad fferm o gwmpas).

Mae gwresogi canolog drwy’r bwthyn, gyda gwresogi oddi dan y llawr mewn mannau, iI gyd yn gynnwys yn y pris!

Byddwch yn ddoeth fod yno grisiau serth yn yr adeilad hon, felly nid yw’n addas ar gyfer yr henoed.

Mae croeso i gwn sydd yn bihafio’n dda (mae cost ychwanegol o 10 punt i’r ci cyntaf, a phum punt i bob ci wedi hyn). Mae’r llwybrau lleol yn addas iawn ar gyfer cwn.

Beth sydd i’w wneud?

Mae rhan fwyaf o bobl yn dod yma i ymlacio! Ond os oes flas i fynd i grwydro arnoch, mae’r llwybrau lleol yn le da i ddechrae. Pam ddim cerdded drosodd i’r oleudy enwog sydd gyda man gwylio natur. Mae’n bosib y gwelwch dolffiniaid yma!

Nid oes le arall ym Mhrydain sy’n cynnwys cyn gymaint o draethau baner glas. Er fod lawer o draethau yma, rydyn yn argymell i chwi drafeilio 3 milltir i draeth Aber Mawr sydd yn andros o brydferth.

Neu os oes ffansi arnos, mae gyda ni 51 o gastelli ac amddiffynfeydd o fewn y sir!

I ddarganfod mwy am y sir hon, ymwelwch a wefan y sir

Os ddiflaswch ar y mor, pam ddim crwydro iI mewn i’r sir ac ymweld a Mynyddoedd Preseli sydd a mannau archaeoleg gwych.

Mae harbwr Gwdig dim ond 3.3 milltir iI ffwrdd sydd yn gwneud tripiau rhad dros y mor i Iwerddon. Mae siopau a tafarndai yn yr ardal hon hefyd.

Mae Abergwaun dim ond 4.5 milltir i ffwrdd sydd gyda siopau bwyd a orieldau i chi ymweld gan gynnwys siop Melin Tregwynt.

Os ydych yn hoffi bwyta allan, mae digon o lefydd lleol i chwi ymweld ag, rydym ni yn hoffi ac yn argymell Llys Meddyg os ydych yn ffansi bwyta allan un noson.
