Casa Castillo Andaluz

about the property

Ancient Moorish property in Vejer de la Frontera, close to the finest beaches in Andalucia - set up high by the castle, with commanding views across the town to the Atlantic and Africa beyond

Vejer de la Frontera, is one of the most beautiful and best preserved historic fortified towns on the Iberian Peninsula. The house itself is situated in a pedestrian-only district by the castle, close but just far enough away from the plentiful bars and restaurants, which are a short distance from the property.

This centuries-old house has an abundance of old world Spanish charm and character. It is constructed around a private patio courtyard, with a shaded seating area and a stone arched hallway leading out to the steep cobbled steps on the street outside.

On the ground floor, there is a spacious authentic Andaluz kitchen and a wine cellar, which is hewn from the rock. Enjoy a feast in the Medieval style dining room, then adjourn upstairs to dance the Fandango in the retro lounge, very funky! Or relax on the grand roof terrace with stunning panoramic views in every direction.

Sleep tight in either the rustic penthouse or the grand room with the Gothic oak bed, after enjoying a nightcap or two in Andalucia's most stunning hilltop town.

local area

Soak up the atmosphere by strolling around Vejer, or take in the rays by heading to a stunning selection of local beaches. The Roman ruins at Bolonia are worth a visit, along with the impressive outdoor sculptures at Montemedio. The Roman aqueduct is one of our favourites and it is just down the hill at the hamlet of La Muela.

customer reviews for Casa Castillo Andaluz

A lovely house in stunning surroundings - next to the castle with views out of Costa de la Luz and across the bay. Best room by far is on the roof - the others are more traditional but darker - more lights would be helpful! The house itself is very traditional - with an indoor courtyard open to the elements. The kitchen has been thoughtfully kitted out and the bedroom was comfortable, although another blanket would be helpful in the winter / early spring. The electricity is erratic and tripped out regularly, up to half a dozen times a day, - searching for the upstairs RCB board was a bit painful - so perhaps best to flag that up to save those who don't bring their own electrical engineer.... Two other minor suggestions - perhaps indicating where parking is possible and the route to the house, which took us a while to find, late at night - and flagging up where one can get the basics - just saves a bit of time. Otherwise, a great stay and the surrounding region has a huge amount to recommend it, with exceptional scenery and contrasting landscapes. And our thanks to Javier for his tour - was helpful, even if we don't speak the language!

A beautiful property with extraordinary views across to Morocco on one side and the white town of Vejer. It was a real treat to live there for a few days.
