Priced for up to 2 staying, sleeps 4. Restored by our good friends Mary and Michael, we're delighted to be the only cottage agency representing this genuine 1940s corrugated tin holiday cottage near Glastonbury in Somerset. This project is craftsman Michael's labour of love!
Step back to the 1940s at The Landgirls’ House near Glastonbury in Somerset. This remarkable tin ‘tiny home’ was constructed in Spring 1940 to house members of the Women’s Land Army – young women who moved to the countryside to help with farming during WWII. Owned by a historian, this has become a lifetime project to restore and furnish the small abode to something similar to how it may have been during the last war. Turn on the old radio, put some vinyl on the turntable, and sit down for a cup of tea in vintage china!
Don't worry, there are also the 'mod cons' that you'd expect for a comfortable stay. Our friends, Mary and Michael live in the house next door, but you've your own private gardens and even an air raid shelter in the garden should the holiday take a turn for the worst.
The cottage is on the edge of a village which has a pub, primary school, village hall and church, all within walking distance across the fields or along quiet roads. A 10-minute drive gets you to Glastonbury, with its Tor and crystal shops and Street, with the retail outlet of Clark’s village. A little further is England’s smallest cathedral city of Wells and the lovely market town of Castle Cary. You can access the Somerset and Dorset beaches in around an hour (nearest is 40 mins).
