about the property

*Refreshed & relaunched for 2024 (new photos coming soon). An idyllic family Pembrokeshire barn with folk-art furnishings. Garden sauna with mountain views available!

Note - these are 2016 photos - we've just relaunched but yet to take the fresh photos - it's even nicer these days - we just stayed with our own family!

We're delighted to welcome Dolaumaen Isaf back as a letting cottage with Under the Thatch. This beautiful barn is peacefully located in the wild hills of the Preselis, yet near enough to some of the best beaches in Wales (about 20/25 minutes) - it is a super place to relax.

Artist/ ceramicist owners Yoshie and Robin live just a hundred yards down the track where they have a pottery studio, and you can feel their Japanese heritage in the immaculately kept interior and small, lovely artistic touches in every room - it's a world away from staying in the second home of a distant landlord that doesn't quite keep on top of the maintenance!. The chief delight inside is a remarkable collection of country furniture and artworks, of the quality and kind that tells you how much the family loves this house.

Enjoy wonderful hiking right from the door, you can even explore the nearby prehistoric quarry from where the Stonehenge bluestones were cut. Summer breaks will be beaches and mountain meadows and perhaps trips down to Tenby, winter escapes enjoyed fireside and in the sauna (modest fee applies for the sauna).

A great choice for families, and those who want a bit of mountain wilderness, yet with easy access to the very best beaches like Mwnt, Poppit Sands and the Parrog at Trefdraeth.

You can book sister property Y Felin Dolaumaen here, to accommodate two additional guests.

customer reviews for Dolaumaen Isaf

We could not have hoped for more. The cottage was set in a peaceful rural location with views onto the preseli hills. Our two boys in particular loved their stay and there were tears before we left and questions of 'can we come back next year'. The cottage interior and exterior were beautifully crafted and a pleasure to spend time in watching the birds in the garden while the children played on the trampoline or with the neighbouring cats.

We had a wonderful time staying in the Bluestone Barn. The accommodation is charming and the surrounding countryside is simply beautiful. Sitting in the garden the only sounds were birds and nearby sheep. We walked along the coast paths and beaches with our dogs. A place to relax and enjoy.

Never been anywhere that has its own henge before! it's a really lovely cottage with fantastic views and very handy for many other places of interest.

What a fabulous break away - the house is amazing. The gardens and the tree swing were a really nice surprise - lots of space to run around. Was really funny when we realised there wasn't a television - hadn't spotted that when we booked - but it was actually really nice not to have it and to play cards in the evening instead. The property is even better than the photos. We forgot to print out instructions so found it a little difficult to find, as we came in via St Davids/Fishguard - no signal for satnav. Really is so quiet and peaceful. Would definitely recommend and return.

Bluestone Barn is by far the best UTT cottage we have stayed in(I like to consider myself a connoisseur!). Absolute perfection with all the added extras(plenty of fairy liquid, a dishwasher, cooking supplies, washing machine/tumble dryer). We booked in for 3 nights over the weekend with our two beagles with the aim of lots of walking and some overdue R&R. Oozing rustic charm from every pore, each piece of furniture seems carefully picked to add to the decor. No phone signal and no TV - perfect! We sat in front of the log fire every evening cwtched up after a nice home cooked meal and relaxed. There is wifi though, so you're not too far away from reality. Perfect hill walks from the doorstep and an ideal location which is close to Cardigan and the coast and lots of other nice areas of Pembrokeshire and West Wales. We are already planning our trip back with more family in 2 months time....words and photos can't do this place justice. Book now and I guarantee you'll be coming back again. A real haven of tranquility....I wish I could spend every weekend here! Highly recommended.

An excellent weekend, despite fairly terrible weather! Bluestone Barn is a very good choice for a holiday. Comfortable, well equipped accommodation in a beautiful setting and well located for many activities. Highly recommend as do our children and our dogs!

We had a lovely holiday at Bluestone Barn. This was the fifth UTT cottage we had stayed in and definitely top of the list so far. The cottage is beautiful - comfortable and characterful with spectacular views and a playground in the garden to keep the children entertained - perfect. Rainy days indoors by the fire or in the cinema at Cardigan, sunny days on the many nearby beaches. Would definitely recommend!!!

Perfect! Everything we have come to expect from UTT

A perfect place to stay with every conceivable comfort thought about. A stunning, get-away-from-it-all location. Cannot recommend it highly enough, though we would prefer to keep it to ourselves! We will be returning very soon.

Our second visit this year and it certainly wont be our last. Bluestone Barn and its wonderfully friendly owners Robin and Yoshie is amazing. Great facilities, decoration, location, hospitality - the list goes on. If Carling did holiday rentals - they couldn't do anything as good as this!!!!

This is our second visit to Bluestone Barn and it wont be our last. We have 3 dogs and it is always difficult to find self catering properties. This one excels. Beautifully restored barn with lots of quirky pieces used to furnish and decorate it. Fab log burner much needed in December. Also little touches like chocolate and biscuits left for our arrival. Great setting in the Preseli Hills with lots of walks both in the hills and on the coast. Highly recommended.

Another UTT winner. An elegant barn conversion, lovely decor yet homely and comfortable, with wonderful views, despite the rain! Robin, Yoshi and their children are so friendly and welcoming yet the property is set apart enough so it still feels private. We will definitely return, my toddler and our dogs loved it.
