about the property
The most amazing Spanish party villa in Andalusia. Sleeping 20 (or more) the world’s largest cavehouse is perfect for your big family holiday – with pool and Moorish hot tub and even its own bar!
As seen on Channel 5 'Our Dream Hotel' - TV show - see inside in this short video.
Guardian Newspaper 'Top 40 Places to Stay in Europe' says
'this vast cavehouse is like the den of a rather discerning hobbit. It has seven bedrooms, six bathrooms, several reception rooms and a kitchen - and all are stuffed with antiques and art. Modern additions include an 'endless pool' (you swim against a current) and a large hot tub with views over the plateau. There are geothermal pools, wine and tapas 10 minutes' drive away.'
Luxury cavehouse featured on Channel 5's 'Our Dream Hotel' (note La Veranda is a self-catering house, not hotel - it's just as large as a small hotel!)
La Veranda is a wonderful place for a group gathering in the sun - an unforgettable house in a beautful location. It sits in a beautiful mountain landscape that enjoys c320 days of sunshine a year, in Granda province, Andalucia. It's an area known for its traditional culture and geothermal pools, but if you want to stay home you have an 'endless spa pool' (with pumps so you swim against the current) and a large hot tub with mountain views. You can sleep up to 20 but the internal configuration still makes it suitable, and comfortable for smaller groups of 4>8 people as there are a choice of receptions of different sizes. Note we also have the adjacent rental Cueva de la Merotte if you want more space.
This video of local activities should gwhet your appetite. Kids will love the sense of freedom (they can roam freely from the house, exploring the caves etc), the pools and the forest adventure park, or (if they wish) feeding the goats and horses with our housekeeper, Monique.
Inside you'll find an remarkable and beautiful interior in what is probably the largest cavehouse in Spain (or the world?). This ancient home, cut from the local stone has three large reception rooms, seven bedrooms, 6 bathrooms and a well-equipped kitchen. You won't be short of space inside or out.
Days out will include geothermal pools (the nearest under 10 minutes drive is 18C and free, open all year round), Moorish castles (nearest under 10 mins), archaeological museums and excavations (walk the mammoth excavation in the village) or to the many lakes. There's no need to go to the coast but you can reach beautiful beaches (or a waterpark for kids) in around 90 minutes. You can walk freely from the door, across an open unfenced landscape. Walk to the ancient Moorish watch tower on the horizon, through forestry, or take the track to nearby Orce (6km) for a meal.

travel info
People have arrived by public transport (taking overnight rains via Paris and Barcelona, and there are regular buses to the local town of Orce (6km), Galera, Huescar and Cullar. However you'll probably find you'll want a car during your stay. Luckily this area has a good choice of airports with low cost carriers. Many guests fly to Alicante/ Murcia/ Malaga/ Almeria and have a night or two on the beach first.
Airports:
- Granada - 150 km, 1hr 35mins (BA flies to London City, Easyjet flies to Gatwick)
- Murcia - 175km, 2 hr
- Almeria - 175 km, 2 hr (many inc. Jet2 who fly to Manchester, Leeds, Edinburgh, East Midlands & Newcastle)
- Alicante - 210 km, 2hr 15 mins (note it is a little further but often has the lowest priced flights)
- Malaga - 260km, 2hr 40 mins (Ryanair + many others)
- Albacete - 230km, 2hr 40mins (Iberia flights only)
We can recommend a local (English-speaking, friendly) taxi guy who does airport runs to collect and return guests - arrange direct with Tony
Skyscanner is a good place to start looking for flights as there are a huge number of providers in this area, beyond the usual Ryanair etc. Each airport website will have a destination map so you can see who flies to your area. The roads from all airports are good, being almost all dual-carriageway, and rarely busy. Driving is much less stressful here than in the UK!
The local bus service is good, though you may find a hirecar useful. For buses this site is useful (bus to Orce, Cullar or Huescar - we may be able to arrange a pick-up if arranged in advance). Or it makes a remarkable drive from the UK. Why not ferry to Santander and then trickle down through Spain?. We've had guests stay with us in Barcelona and then take the amazing roadtrip down through Spain to stay here.
