La Chaume is a unique holiday home in the heart of the French countryside. The converted barn is in a peaceful setting in the Limousin, positioned between Poitiers and Limoges. With two bedrooms, and sleeping four, Sparkleseed is perfect for couples or small families: it offers a chance for a real break from hectic lives at home. If peace & quiet, relaxation and a chance to unwind is what you look for in a holiday, and to be surrounded by natural beauty, La Chaume has the lot. It’s just off the beaten track in a small hamlet of approx a dozen houses, surrounded by farms, fields, rivers, lakes, woods and forests.

La Chaume is rural and secluded but also a great base from which to explore the beautiful French surroundings. There are plenty of opportunities for the energetic, including cycling, walking, canoeing & kayaking at nearby towns of Le Dorat, Bellac, Montmorillon & L’Isle Jourdain. Near the house, a short walk takes you down to the river.

By road: 6 hours from Caen and 8 hours from Calais. Good access from A20 or N147

By train: Eurostar Paddington London > Lille or Paris with TGV rail to Poitiers, & local train to Bellac station (8-10 miles away). Car hire available at Limoges airport and Poitiers & Limoges railway stations.

Lounge / diner:
Open plan with high ceilings, the lovely original beams and woodwork give the place a glimpse of its past. Double French doors to front and back let the light flood in and access the garden. TV and a DVD player (no TV reception). Hi-fi for radio, CDs and cassettes. Games and toys for the children. Dining table, couch, seating looking onto garden.

Kitchen:
Large kitchen with breakfast bar. Modern appliances - induction cooker, fridge-freezer, microwave, toaster, juicer, bread machine. Window looks out to front drive area, back door opens onto patio.

Utility Room:
Quite a large room, connecting the inside world and the outside - ideal area for hanging coats and boots and all outdoor stuff. Washing machine.

Bathroom:
Large room containing shower and sink.

Master bedroom:
Mezzanine bedroom. Double bed, chest of drawers, bedside cupboard, wardrobe.

2nd bedroom:
Accessed via the mezzanine. Two single beds, chest of drawers, bedside table. Window overlooking garden.

Outside:
The garden of two-thirds of an acre wraps around the house. To the back, the large secluded terrace has views across the fields. Three large walnut trees give welcome shade in the summer sun and nuts in autumn. There are also several fruit trees - apples, pear, cherry, plum, and fig. Guests are encouraged to help themselves to whatever happens to be growing. The kitchen door accesses straight onto the terrace, great for outside eating and viewing the night-time star-filled skies. There is an outside table and benches and folding chairs that are generally kept in the workshop when not in use. The garden is fully fenced and self contained and vehicle access is via sliding gate. Carport.

The nearest village with shops is Bussiere-Poitvine, about 4 miles, so just 10 mins in the car to collect your croissants from the boulangerie. There’s also a mini-market, greengrocers, tea-rooms, bar, coffee shop, restaurant, bank, children’s play area, pharmacy and hardware store there.
