Great value Andalucian lakefront holiday cottage villa in Parque Natural de Castril, Granada. Sleeps 6
Set within the Sierra de Castril Natural Park, Casa Turquesa is a traditional Andalucian 'cortijo' (rural cottage) that enjoys a spectacular location with views over Lake Portillo and the surrounding mountains.
Recently restored, the property sympathetically combines traditional features with modern comforts. A 5-minute walk takes you to a secluded lakeside bathing spot with crystal clear waters that have an amazing green/azure glow from the limestone rocks. It will provide you with the best bathing of your life: it is really a special location.
The charming town of Castril with its traditional whitewashed cottages and narrow cobbled streets is a 10-minute drive or lovely 30-minute walk through the olive groves.
Casa Turquesa itself is a spacious three-bedroom cottage with a large kitchen/diner and cosy living room with traditional fireplace. The kitchen is well equipped with an oven/hob; a large fridge; and a microwave. A large dining table and corner sofa enjoy views of the lake from a full-height window. The lounge has a lovely wood-burning stove for the cooler winter evenings and comfortable armchairs and sofa. There are books, games, and jigsaws to while away the time. Upstairs there are two good sized bedrooms - one twin and one with a King size double - both enjoying views over the lake. A family bathroom comes with a new shower. The third bedroom is located on the ground floor in which a daybed can be used as either a double or two singles.
Outside there is a superb three-tier terrace equipped with dining table and loungers from which you can enjoy magnificent views over the lake and the surrounding landscape - an ideal space in which to dine, stargaze or simply laze the afternoon away.
The house is perfect if you fancy a relaxing holiday off the beaten track and want to experience the real Spain.

travel info
Airports:
- Granada - 1hr 45mins (BA flies from London City, Easyjet flies from Gatwick and Manchester)
- Almeria - 2 hr (many, including Jet2 from Manchester, Leeds, Stansted, Edinburgh, East Midlands & Newcastle)
- Murcia - 2 hr, 25mins (mainly Ryanair, Easyjet)
- Alicante - 2hr 35mins (Ryanair, Easyjet + others)
- Malaga - 2hr 45mins (Ryanair, Easyjet + others)
Skyscanner is a good place to start looking for flights as there are plenty of providers beyond the usual Ryanair etc. The roads from all airports are good, being almost all dual-carriageway, and rarely busy. Driving is much less stressful here than in the UK!
Or it makes a remarkable drive from the UK. Why not ferry to Santander and then trickle down through Spain?

Castril the local town is friendly and full of character. Don't miss the spectacular gorge walk, lovely swimming pool and climb to the viewpoint of Pena del Sagarado Corazon. Relax with drink and some traditional tapas in one of the many bars afterwards.
