Between the mountains and the sea in rural north-west Wales, this fine country house for large groups is perfect for a coastal getaway for all the family in Snowdonia.
Situated in rural north Wales between mountains, sea, and the river Dwyfor - Tŷ Newydd is a historic grade II* listed house built in the fifteenth century. It was the last home of former Prime Minister David Lloyd George, who commissioned famous Portmeirion architect Clough Williams-Ellis to renovate the house and grounds with his notable magic touch.
Currently serving as Wales’ national writing centre, the house has been modernised with a mobility lift, central heating and Wi-Fi throughout. It’s perfect for a large family, with three spacious and homely reception rooms, lots of quirky stairs and halls, a fully-equipped kitchen, and a very large garden full of hidden spaces. It has plenty of flexible bedroom options to accommodate a range of different sized groups.
New! For groups bigger than 17 there are now 2 x extra double rooms (en suite) are available in the Old Stables only 100 yards from the main house - therefore the property will now sleep 21 guests. One of these rooms is suitable for wheelchair users and those with limited mobility, with a specially adapted wet room next door fitted with a shower, washbasin and W.C.
The house, situated at the end of its own drive, has amazing views over Cardigan Bay. Nature and wildlife is abundant here – expect to see owls, weasels, foxes, rabbits and buzzards.
A twenty-minute walk will take you down to the beach and the nearby seaside town of Cricieth – home of the famous Cadwaladers’ ice cream parlour and majestic Cricieth castle.
The nearby village, Llanystumdwy, is a mere five-minute walk down a leafy lane and has a lovely family-friendly pub serving home-made meals. The village also boasts popular tourist attractions - a rabbit farm and animal park; and a paintballing and Bear Grylls survival academy.

We had a wonderful, unforgettable family celebration at Ty Newydd. We booked the house plus two rooms in the stable annexe for 15 of us, ranging in age from 12 to 80. The house has everything you need...
