customer reviews for Awel Deg

Lovely accommodation great base for us.Perfect accomodation for two.

- David P,
2024

We loved Awel Deg, Fishguard and the surrounding area. The property is stunning and the owners have thought of everything to help visitors enjoy their stay. We loved the collection of books, in particular, the Welsh ones, as we are learning Welsh. The local pubs and restaurants are great. We enjoyed pizza a the Ffwrn, live music at the Royal Oak, learning about the Invasion Tapestry (it's amazing) and had an exciting boat ride from Fishguard Harbour, where we saw a Dolphin, Seals and other wildlife. It was always great to return to Awel Deg at the end of the day. Diolch yn fawr.

Great location and fabulously spacious cottage with a great view of the harbour

- Richard G,

What a wonderfully restored cottage this is. All the comfort you can ask for in a truly scenic setting. A pity we only could stay for three nights

- Manfred M,

A lovely, stylish and well equipped apartment in a fantastic location. We had a super holiday. Town and countryside on the doorstep plus a fantastic view fro the bedroom balcony. Just gorgeous.

- Maxine C,

Beautiful and stunningly appointed cottage in a perfect location for a much needed break from the hectic chaos of normal life. The peace and calm has been lovely, with incredible coastal walks and scenery not far from the doorstep. Thank you.

- Jonathan S,

The flat is clean, comfortable and spacious, in a wonderful location, . The balcony and french window in the bedroom is a particular attraction. Sitting there watching the world go by was wonderful, particularly as we miraculously had very good weather while we were there, with a lot of sun which we needed very badly! The flat is well equipped apart from a couple of items which we could have done with - we would have appreciated a non-slip mat in the shower, and the kitchen had no oven gloves or dishcloths/scourers. Other than those minor details the place was nigh on perfect and we'd love to return some time, for longer than three nights! Many thanks.

Lle gwych i anadlu, arafu a mwynhau'r tywydd yn taro'r harbwr, heb son am gyfoeth arfordir Penfro tu hwnt. Mae popeth sydd ei angen yn Awel Deg - fel gwesty bwtic 5* on gydag enaid. A wonerful place t breathe, slow down and enjoy the drama of weather across the harbpur, as well as the wider attractions of the Pembrokeshire coast. Awel Deg has everything you need - it's like a 5* boutique hotel but with soul.

A truly lovely, well appointed cottage in a stunning location. Awel Deg has everything you need for a relaxing break with added touches of luxury to ensure that you have a memorable stay.

What a fantastic Christmas we had in a superb location in a wonderful, warmer spacious home. Can’t wait to visit again when the weather is better and we can do some of the local walks we sadly missed. Thank you.

- Pat V,
2023

Very nice house with views across the harbour. Warm and very comfortable, clean and modern. We really liked the property. Coastal path close by. Cosy little pub round the corner. Would have loved a King size bed though (at the least), a double is too small. Didn't realise the house would be completely empty, no salt/pepper/tea/dish washer tabs/. Wish we had realised that before hand. Enjoyed the harbour walk and close by walks to Strumble Head and Dinas Head. Fishguard is a friendly place.

- Sarah K,

We had a wonderful week at Awel Deg. It is extremely spacious, beautifully designed and decorated to such a very high standard. The 2 bathrooms were a real treat for just 2 people and worked really well for us. We particularly enjoyed the bedroom balcony, from which we would relax at the end of the day with a drink to make the most of the fabulous position on the quay of a quiet working harbour with small boats, changing tides and wonderful sunsets providing the view. From the property it is just 15 minute walk up the hill to the main town where there are plenty of pubs and restaurants, if travelling further afield it is an ideal base for exploring much of the beautiful Pembrokeshire coast. Without hesitation we highly recommend this property. Jane & Al September 2023

We had the most wonderful stay at Awel Deg - the perfect way to celebrate our 1st wedding anniversary. The accommodation was beautiful - clean, bright and hugely spacious, with breathtaking views. A firm favourite was definitely the view from the bedroom balcony. We spent many hours looking out onto the harbour, watching the world go by - so peaceful. The accommodation was in the perfect location. We enjoyed walking round Fishguard (a pastry from Nourish bakery, lunch at Mannings, dinner at JT Abergwaun Hotel, Folk at the Oak, a drink at the Ship Inn ...). We also enjoyed walking along the Coastal Path, taking a Boat Trip from St Justinians with Falcon Boats, having an ice cream by the beautiful cathedral in St Davids, and a quick stop at Cwm Yr Eglwys and Newport on our way home. The people in Fishguard were also so kind, welcoming and friendly. We cannot wait to return to Fishguard, and specifically to Awel Deg. It really is the perfect place to rest and recharge. We adore it. We have told all our friends and family about Awel Deg, and cannot sing its praises highly enough. We hope to spend many a wedding anniversary here - we are already thinking about our next trip! Thank you so much for the most wonderful stay! It was exactly what we needed. Jenni and Sean

Fabulous, spacious, light & airy apartment. Beautifully finished to a very high standard. Great views from all windows and in particular, the balcony. Wish we could have stayed longer.

- Peter W,

This was our 3rd trip to Awel Deg and each time, we are blown away by the generosity of the accommodation (it is huge for 2 people) and the views over the harbour. There are so many things to see in the vicinity - Pentre Ifan, Tycanol woods, Llys y fran reservoir and of course, miles of beautiful coastline and boat trips to the puffins - that we aim to return to Awel Deg for a 4th time next year. - Jenny

Awel Deg was fabulous! - the location was perfect, right on the quiet quayside with a cafe at one end and a pub at the other. Great base for walking, and only a short stroll into Fishguard. The cottage was huge, very clean and perfect for a week's holiday. Totally recommend it.

- Charlie H,
2023

Awel Deg was without doubt a little slice of heaven on earth. From the stunning location to the beautiful accommodation we honestly had one of our best holiday breaks ever. We were blessed with gorgeous weather, everything you could ever need from pretty villages to stunning coastal walks are close at hand and the peace and quiet were just what we needed. Cannot recommend this destination highly enough.

- John H,
2023

A lovely house In a wonderful location. Wished we could have stayed longer. Thoroughly recommend. (A couple of small niggles-some dishwasher tablets would have been nice and also a spare toilet roll).

- John E,
2023

Fabulous cottage, spacious, light and airy and lovely location overlooking Fishguard old town harbour. Wish we could have stayed longer than 3 nights.

- Sally P,
2023

This was our 3rd time staying at Awel Deg (2nd time was just 6 weeks ago). We absolutely love the house, it’s perfect! The view is spectacular and when you step out on the balcony and look out, you can’t help but feel relaxed. Everything you could need is provided, the kitchen is amazing, 2 beautiful bathrooms and so many windows to enjoy the view. A perfect place for a romantic, relaxing getaway!!

- Kate W,
2023

Excellent accommodation, very clean, warm and comfortable in a superb position looking out over the harbour.

- Melinda M,
2023

This was our second visit to Awel Deg and we’re hoping it won’t be our last. The cottage is beautiful and comfortable and in a stunning location on Fishguard harbour.

- Keith whaley ,
2023

What an excellent property! Wonderful! Immaculate and comfortable. It being February, we used the log burner every day. There are beautiful walks straight out of the door and the sun even made an appearance! Small point might be that the double bed is standard size which is fine for us, but might be less easy for others.

- Julia M,
2023

This property is without a doubt one of the finest places I have ever stayed in, finished to a very quality, incredibly comfortable, warm, homely and very well equipped. The photographs do not do it justice. The bed is extremely comfortable and the bath is just incredible. Beautifully located with some incredible views and walks close by. This property exceeded all expectations on every level, it's not a case of if we'll be back, it's more a case of when.

- Gareth D,
2023

A wonderful few days for our wedding anniversary in this gorgeous cottage in such an amazing location - so peaceful just watching the birds and the light on the water. The cottage was spotlessly clean and well-equipped and we loved the space and the stylish decor and thanks for the little Christmas touches. This part of Pembrokeshire is stunning with many varied walks and places to explore - or you can can just stroll along the quay! Hope to return before too long. Thanks very much.

- Annie L,
2022

Great location on the harbour and a lovely cottage. Beautiful conversion, well kitted out and very spacious. The only negative was the size of the bed - a normal/small double. Given the size of the bedroom it would have been nice to have a king size. We enjoyed exploring the stunning coastline and the highlight of the week was seeing a beach full of seals. Some excellent restaurants and cafes nearby.

- Dinah H,
2022

This was our second stay at Awel Deg and it was, again, excellent. Very spacious and tranquil with lovely views, particularly from the bedroom and the huge bathtub. We aim to return again next year! (Very minor niggle - it would be good to have a couple of extra tea cloths, j-cloths in the kitchen; a small frying pan and a better cheese grater would also be welcome - but these are really minor points.)

- Jenny K,
2022

Awel Deg is beautiful, comfortable and in an idyllic location at the edge of the water. Quay Street is picturesque and popular, yet a very peaceful, relaxing, safe area to stay in and a good base for exploring further afield. However, we enjoyed spending most of our time in Fishguard as the pubs are welcoming and the food is good.

- Christine L,
2022

We've had a lovely few days here at Awel Deg . Our second visit as we enjoyed it so much last year. As always we didn't want to.leave, Awel Deg is a beautiful holiday home , so tastefully furnished and spacious . Very bright with the gorgeous view from every window , particularly the bedroom where you can open the doors, sit and just enjoy watching the Harbour. We enjoyed walks along the coast and visits to Newport and St David's. We still have more to see so we hope to return to this area next year and we will most definitely stay at Awel Deg.

- Georgina M,
2022

Awel Deg is the most beautiful cottage in a perfect location, right beside the old fishing harbour in Fishguard. The apartment is huge and beautifully furnished and equipped. Highly recommend.

- Suzanne K,
2022

The place was perfect and exceeded our expectations. The location was just right for us - a good place to explore an area we did not know, and not isolated. The place is very stylish, spacious and comfortable. It has everything you need and the garden is a bonus. The bath was also a real treat. As others have commented, the bed is a bit on the small size and the bedding could do with an upgrade, but it’s not a deal breaker. We hope to return. Thanks.

- Kim L,
2022

Beautiful accommodation. Spacious, tastefully furnished and in a lovely location. Would definitely visit again

- Laura M,
2022

We enjoyed a wonderful stay in a such beautiful location. The apartment was spotless, and is extremely spacious. The balcony doors are a real highlight (it would be more convenient if all the doors had their own key though). We agree with other comments about the size of the bed and the lack of kitchen equipment, which seem strange considering how perfect everything else was, but don't let that detract you. A couple of extra door stops and a nest of tables would also be useful but hey, that's hardly a biggie. We will definitely be returning!

- Tim lowther ,
2022

The apartment was absolutely gorgeous. A super setting. We enjoyed sitting on the balcony after walking the coastal paths

- David stevens ,
2022

Fabulous property. Really spacious and ranges through several spacious rooms on the first floor! Character property with brand new stylish refurbishment. Beautiful light and views of the harbour. Very very comfortable, stylish, relaxing … a fantastic retreat. We will be back!

- Ben R,
2022

Despite the incessant rain we spent three lovely nights at Awel Deg.The property is beautifully finished, and is situated in a wonderful location on the quayside. We will definitely be returning.

- Carole jones ,
2022

What a wonderful holiday we had. The location is superb - views out over the harbour meant changes all day. The accommodation itself was outstanding. A wonderful conversion of two cottages. So spacious , clean warm and modern. The best holiday cottage for two we have stayed at. Only one thing would have improved our stay and that would have been a bigger bed. Other than that 10/10

- Rena K,
2022

Absolutely lovely cottage with next to perfect location. The cottage has been renovated to a very high standard and you feel truly lucky every time you enter the building after having a trip out in the lovely Pembrokeshire area. If there are any negatives I would say the provisions do not match the quality of the cottage itself. Amazing kitchen so it was a bit disappointing that the supply of knives (chefs, utility etc) and cooking implements were pretty poor. These minor things only detracted a little however and I would reiterate the quality of the cottage and its position outweighs all of them. We'd definitely use it again but just bring our own kitchen implements and coffee cafetiere.

- Darran S,
2022

6* accommodation I had the most luxurious Christmas break, exactly what I had hoped for and more

- Jane donald ,
2021

The owners have created a real "home from home" with a high quality and characterful conversion of these cottages in a truly stunning setting - a pleasure to come back to after a day exploring beautiful Pembrokeshire.

- Richard B,
2021

Absolutely stunning property, we’ve thoroughly enjoyed our stay here, beautiful location overlooking the harbour

- Lucy P,
2021

We loved our 7 night stay at Awel Deg. It's a beautifully renovated apartment in a super location. Very comfortable and a perfect place to relax. Everything we required was available though we'd agree with other comments that kitchen equipment is basic (but adequate).

- Joy H,
2021

We thoroughly enjoyed our three night stay at Awel Deg. A wonderfully spacious property decorated to a superb standard throughout. Opening the bedroom balcony doors at night to allow the moonlight and sounds of the harbour to wash in was the stuff of dreams. We loved having two bathrooms (although both wanted to use the lovely freestanding bath! The location is a quiet working harbour with yachts moored and occasional fishing boats unloading. The harbour in Lower Town is a 10/15 minute walk up hill to the main town where there are plenty of pubs and restaurants, but don’t miss the Yacht Club Cafe, just up the quay from Awel Deg. We spent one day just enjoying the house and the harbour, but used a taxi to drive us from Goodwick out to Strumble Head so that we could walk back along the coast path. Thank you for a lovely few days.

- Madelin M,
2021

What a fantastic apartment - modern interior design, top level furnishings and everything you need for your stay. Bedroom balcony providing views of the inner harbour enabling one to savour not only the scenery but also to watch the activities of the boating community and those participating in other pursuits. The only criticism what about a larger double bed! First visit to Pembrokeshire and so glad we stayed at Awel Deg. Great location and we saw a lot and did a lot. Look forward to a return visit.

- Brian F,
2021

We really enjoyed our stay at Awel Deg. The property is perfectly located - providing stunning views of the harbour and easy access to local walks and good restaurants. This modern and well designed apartment is excellently appointed but we would have definitely appreciated a bigger bed thank the standard double provided. We’ll be back!

- Lynda W,
2021

We loved our week at beautiful Awel Deg. It's certainly the most spacious property for 2 that we've ever stayed at and so beautifully designed and decorated. The position, on Lower Quay, is fantastic and we never tired of looking at the fabulous views. The local pub and the cafe on the quay were great, with plenty of other options a short walk up the hill in the main town. Fishguard is also a good base for exploring much of the beautiful Pembrokeshire coast. As others have said, our only wish would have been for a bigger bed. Otherwise, this was a perfect location and we'd love to visit again. Thanks to the owners and to Under the Thatch for a lovely holiday.

- Leah M,
2021

Me and my husband had a fabulous holiday in Fishguard. Staying at Awel Deg was the icing on the cake. We paid a bit more for our holiday than we usually do as we wanted something special after not having a holiday last year because of Covid and the house delivered it in spades. Fabulous spacious accommodation. We part loved the bedroom with the balcony looking over the harbour. We would recommend maybe providing extra cooking utensils eg wooden spoons and maybe some instructions for the washing machine (although I worked it out).

- Myrtle P,
2021

Really lovely property - lots of people passing by commented on it, took photos and we passed details of UTT to one couple. Would just have appreciated a bigger bed and larger bath towels!

- Georgina R,
2021

An absolute gem - hugely spacious for just two people and a perfect place to chill out with one of the best locations in the area, or as a base to explore Pembrokeshire. Spotlessly clean and well equipped, and 10-15 minutes’ walk into town (up a steep hill). Our only tiny improvement would be to have a king size bed instead of the double. Well worth the UTT label and we’ll absolutely be back!

- Mark W,
2021

We really enjoyed our stay at Awel Deg. The house is fantastic; very spacious and modern, and we would definitely like to visit again.

- Claire C,
2021

Property exceeded our expectations as very large and beautifully furnished which the photos don’t fully show. Well equipped kitchen and lovely outside space too. Well heated and really hot water,so taking advantage of the bath with the view over the water was very relaxing. The view from the front of the property is glorious and it was very peaceful day and night, although I expect the Summer months will be busier during the day. Even though we are both small built,we have a super king size bed at home,so the double bed was a bit of a surprise, although very comfortable.Would highly recommend.
