about the property

Priced for 4 staying, sleeps 8. Converted from a cowshed by our friends Dafydd and brother Preds - this is a super sustainable, and stylish project and we're proud to be its agent!

Ysgubor Gwyrdd barn conversion is an ideal marriage of sustainable thinking and cool interior design. You'd be pushed to find a more impressive Welsh location than this "off-grid" barn, set in glorious isolation 600 feet above the stunning Dyfi valley in mid-Wales. Tremendous views stretch from the sea in the west to the mountains north and east. Surrounded by nothing but organic farmland and birdsong, this 'eco-barn' will lift the mind and refresh the soul. Sustainability has been at the heart of every decision in the conversion and even electricity is produced on-site using solar power. A mile up your own track! Featured in 'BBC Homes & Antiques' magazine.

Set in the most unbelievable surroundings! this is the cosiest converted barn. The wood burners kept us lovely and warm and the large kitchen table was perfect for all seven of us to enjoy eating together. The beds were very comfy and we enjoyed pottering around the local town. This was the best tonic for recuperation! Can't wait to visit again!

We had the most incredible 3 days at Ysgubor Gwyrdd. The house is in the most spectacular setting with endless big sky views. There was constant hot water, the beds were incredibly comfortable, lots of logs for the wood burner which worked a treat and made the house very cosy and warm in the evenings. We could not want for anything more to make it a the perfect stay. Under the Thatch have been a joy to book through, they could not have been more attentive - we felt very looked after. I will definitely be coming back. Thank you so much to UTH and the very clever owners who have created this incredible peaceful place. Best wishes Georgie

Thanks so much for a lovely holiday. We had a wonderful time and the cottage is absolutely gorgeous. Just a couple of really minor points that would be helpful - there was no recycling facilities which would have been nice to see and a dustpan and brush would have been helpful - as i said- really minor as the stay was just lovely and a really unique and relaxing location . We’d def love to come stay again. Thank you!

We took a long November weekend away here - a few friends (and my puppy on her second ever holiday) to hide away and play Board games. The barn was just what we needed - quiet, isolated and warm when we got the fire going to offset the nighttime chill. We were nervous as to how much power we'd have, so we planned food in advance. We bought a cool box too in order to give us a little more space. That all worked out as we hoped. We played lots of games, enjoyed the walks from our door, and our pup Blodyn got a good safe run around in the fenced-in yard when she wasn't out on the hills with us. A great spot. Will definitely be back.

We had a lovely stay at ysgubor dyfi. It was set high on the side of a hill, high up enough to get an abolutely beautiful 180 degree view of the valley. The view was enough to enrich everyday whatever the weather. Although we were particularly lucky with ours with fantastic sunsets and sunrises. The barn is very characterful and we felt very much at home in its ambiance. The beds were very comfy which is important too. We really enjoyed having a fire in the evening. We never ran out of electricity but did only have phones on charge and lighting where necessary. You could use your phone outside and even get wifi if really needed. We felt it was an absolutely brilliant place and location and enjoyed watching the sheep in the adjoining fields. We managed to find lots of long walks just a short drive from Machnlyth and the coast was only 12 miles away. All in all we had a wonderful stay. It would have been nice to have a larger fridge for all of us and a little diy on the wobbly kitchen table wouldn't go amiss. Thanks for a lovely stay

We really enjoyed coming away to Ysgubor Dyfi. The cottage is in such a remote location which was ideal for us nature lovers. We all enjoyed being able to see red kites, sheep and rabbits close to the house and the view of the hills from the balcony was perfect for sunset admirers. The owners of the cottage were very friendly. They delivered more bed linen and towels to us upon realising there was a mix up with the number of guests staying. They also gave us a bottle of wine as a sorry which went down very well. There are numerous walks from the doorstep and the countryside is incredible. We barely saw anyone in the area, it is so peaceful. The house is also idyllic. It has a rustic, cosy feel and the layout is spot on. The fire kept us toasty after wet walks and that bath was probably the best I’ve ever had! We hope to come again. Thanks for letting it to us, K&team

Amazing location. The house is a lovely space in the summer and the log burners are great. Need a good car to get up the hill to the house but worth the views when you get there. Very calm place to be off grid :)

beautifully tranquil and stunning sunsets; really enjoyed our stay here and we were very lucky with the weather to make the most of walking in this area.

A truly remarkable stay with stunning panoramic unspoiled views. A must for any couple or family wanting total peace and tranquility. Only things I can suggest to add is a few more cooking utensils, usual mod cons for total laziness. Now here’s a recipe for a bottle of wine on a sunset evening. A********* .

We loved staying at Ysgubor Dyfi. The arrival instructions were clear and the warning about the road up to the property is accurate! Having said that we made it OK in our rear-wheel drive saloon so as long as conditions are not too bad, most cars should manage. Massive supply of logs provided - the log-burner is the only form of heating - and with it being winter we kept it going most of the time but barely made a dent in the supply. The weather while we were there was incredibly wild and windy but we were very cosy. Due to the limitations of the power supply, the fridge is small so it's worth bearing that in mind but we didn't find it a problem. Highlights were the bath-with-a-view, and seeing red kites over the field right in front of the barn. We will definitely be back.

As we set off up the mountain track we felt we were travelling a million miles away from the chaos and noise of modern life. The barn is amazing - the decking is perfect to lie on and cloud watch by day and star watch by night, Only downside was having to come home! Perfect place and stunning views and walks - and a very comfy bed! Thank you we will be back, Jo, David and Harry the dog

Our stay here was the perfect get away from the Christmas madness. The barn really is magical. We arrived in the dark to discover origami stars hung from wires made out of music manuscript paper, a tea light chandelier and the most comfortable beds I've ever slept in. The owners clearly have impeccable taste! We loved the beautiful fabric turned into cushions and throws, the big wood burner with plenty of fuel and the most luxurious sunken bath. You really can lie in the bath with a cup of coffee, the window open and gaze out at the sheep and the hillside. Great walking from the door and the Co-op in Machynlleth is huge and well stocked so we needn't have done a huge supermarket shop before we left. Really recommend this property, it has so much character, is so warm and cosy and is in a stunning location.

We have just returned from 3 wonderful days at Ysgubor Dyfi. It truly was amazing. The fact that we could take our 3 cavaliers with us was great. They had the best time ever. Great walks on the doorstep. The barn is fantastic, it has everything you need. The views are tremendous. We would return anytime of the year for the experience. Thank you. X

This was our second stay at Eco barn and what a wonderful week it was. The wind and rain only added to the dramatic landscape. There's so much to love about this place , the sunken bath with a view, the cosy lounge and fire, the solitude, I could go on and on and on...

We will miss the green! The barn was lovely and the views beautiful in all weathers - sun, rain and mist. In fact, white mist in the valley below with and orange sunrise above ties for first place with the vibrant greens backed by Cadair Idris. Lots to do and see - fabulous walks from the house and further afield, lovely beaches,. The ospreys are not to be missed, and Mark the Mole at Corris Mine Explorers was the surprise hit of the holiday. The barn itself lived up to the pictures, and although poor Daffyd had to work hard to fix the inverter for the electricity we had a most comfortable and relaxing stay (Inverter now working perfectly, should be good for another 7 years!)

We arrived at the Eco barn to be pleasantly surprised by the size and cosy feel of the place. The views are spectacular! We even watched the annual firework display at Borth from the balcony. We were blessed with brilliant weather for early November but needed the wood burner after a day at the beach walking. The night sky was amazing! We saw the Milky Way and shooting stars. All this made my 50th birthday celebrations all the more special. The barn has been renovated to a high standard with an interesting mix of antique and retro furniture. We will definitely stay here again! One of our favourite UTT places for position/views.

An amazing place, the cottage had a timeless quality. Living literally in the landscape gave a welcomed rest from the digital world. So much to explore in the area for young and old adventurers - Ospreys, art, great cafes, deserted sandy beaches and magical mountains.

We enjoyed a fabulous three night stay in this gorgeous barn;it was a great base to climb Snowdon on the Saturday and explore surrounding countryside on the Sunday. The beds were very comfortable, the wood-burner made the barn inviting and the eclectic mixture of styles of furniture and colours looked wonderful together.

We loved everything. The sun shone on us. The wind howled at us. The fire toasted us. The house charmed us. And the lambs entertained us. Most of all we loved the peace and isolation... and has anyone mentioned the views yet? - Aly and Duncan, Bristol
